have you met megan?
Meet the Mega Body Exhibit, also known as Megan: a 50-foot long, 26-foot wide and 12-foot high inflatable replica of the human body.
Megan is complete with a heart, lungs, spine, and ribs, along with all the other organs that you would expect to see if you were swallowed by a giant inflatable person. You might be surprised to see just how informative Megan is: the exhibit showcases 26 different areas of the body! See a full list of the exhibit’s features here.
The Mega Body Exhibit provides a comprehensive look into the inner workings of our bodies, encouraging the importance of good health and wellness in the aim of preventing common ailments in children, teenagers and adults. This message carries a particular urgency due to the increasing prevalence of diseases — including heart disease and type-2 diabetes — in young people.
Not only is this exhibit informative, but visitors also get the opportunity to learn a ton of fun facts! For example, did you know that your brain uses 20% of the total oxygen and blood in your body? Or that your eyes blink more than 27,397 times a day?
When you visit Megan the Mega Body, no matter how old you are, you’re guaranteed to learn all kinds of mind-blowing facts about the human anatomy.
Recently, Megan went to visit our friends at The Discovery in Reno and at the Salinas Municipal Airport — and they had a lot to say about her!
“Bigger isn’t always better, but when it comes to learning about your body, it actually is!” says one enthusiastic visitor
At the Salinas Municipal Airport, where the exhibit was displayed at the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Runway, Oscar Gantes says of Megan: “This is a great opportunity for healthcare providers to talk to children about the benefits of eating healthy and exercising. It allows people to see how lifestyle choices and habits can impact the health of various organs.” Gantes is a family medicine physician at the Taylor Farms Family Health & Wellness Center in Gonzales.
Elaine Cudnik, an advanced nurse practitioner with Renown Medical Group Pediatrics remarks, “This is a perfect way to show kids of all ages the fascinating workings of the human body.” Cudnik cites that the Renown Children’s Hospital brought this exhibit to Reno as a hands-on way of encouraging wellness in the community.
“This fun exhibit reminds us how remarkable our body is and that it’s never too late to improve your health.”
