Houston, TX — Get ready to dive into the world of neuroscience like never before! On Monday, October 1, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Fondren Middle School will host an extraordinary educational experience with the arrival of the MEGA Brain. This colossal, walk-through exhibit, measures 18 feet long, 12 feet tall, and 15 feet wide, and promises to captivate and educate students about the brain’s intricate wonders.

“The Mega Brain is being used to ignite the student’s interest regarding neurosurgery and neuroscience. As Marian Wright Edelman said, “You can’t be what you don’t see,” said ABNS (American Board of Neurological Surgery) board-certified neurosurgeon Dr. Sonia Eden.

Presented by the American Society of Black Neurosurgeons (ASBN), the MEGA Brain exhibit will take students on a journey through the central nervous system, showcasing all things neuroscience, including causes, effects, and treatments related to brain trauma and stroke. The exhibit aims to spark interest in neurosurgery among young minds and will feature interactive elements and engaging presentations by esteemed Black neurosurgeons. Students will also have the chance to ask questions directly to these doctors.

This larger-than-life model isn’t just about size—it makes learning unforgettable, and helps demonstrate that careers in neuroscience are attainable. Visitors will step inside the MEGA Brain and explore its details up close, gaining a deeper understanding of the brain’s role in health and disease. This one-of-a-kind exhibit is both fun and educational, and it makes complex scientific concepts accessible and exciting for all ages.

Don’t miss this chance to experience the MEGA Brain and ignite a passion for neuroscience in the next generation!

Meet the Mega Body Exhibit, also known as Megan: a 50-foot long, 26-foot wide and 12-foot high inflatable replica of the human body.

Megan is complete with a heart, lungs, spine, and ribs, along with all the other organs that you would expect to see if you were swallowed by a giant inflatable person. You might be surprised to see just how informative Megan is: the exhibit showcases 26 different areas of the body! See a full list of the exhibit’s features here.

The Mega Body Exhibit provides a comprehensive look into the inner workings of our bodies, encouraging the importance of good health and wellness in the aim of preventing common ailments in children, teenagers and adults. This message carries a particular urgency due to the increasing prevalence of diseases — including heart disease and type-2 diabetes — in young people.

Not only is this exhibit informative, but visitors also get the opportunity to learn a ton of fun facts! For example, did you know that your brain uses 20% of the total oxygen and blood in your body? Or that your eyes blink more than 27,397 times a day?
When you visit Megan the Mega Body, no matter how old you are, you’re guaranteed to learn all kinds of mind-blowing facts about the human anatomy.
Recently, Megan went to visit our friends at The Discovery in Reno and at the Salinas Municipal Airport — and they had a lot to say about her!

“Bigger isn’t always better, but when it comes to learning about your body, it actually is!” says one enthusiastic visitor

At the Salinas Municipal Airport, where the exhibit was displayed at the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Runway, Oscar Gantes says of Megan: “This is a great opportunity for healthcare providers to talk to children about the benefits of eating healthy and exercising. It allows people to see how lifestyle choices and habits can impact the health of various organs.” Gantes is a family medicine physician at the Taylor Farms Family Health & Wellness Center in Gonzales.
Elaine Cudnik, an advanced nurse practitioner with Renown Medical Group Pediatrics remarks, “This is a perfect way to show kids of all ages the fascinating workings of the human body.” Cudnik cites that the Renown Children’s Hospital brought this exhibit to Reno as a hands-on way of encouraging wellness in the community.

“This fun exhibit reminds us how remarkable our body is and that it’s never too late to improve your health.”

Not surprisingly, we hear feedback like this all the time! Read the top 6 useful tips and insights about the Mega Body Exhibit here, as written by Mikalee Byerman.
The Mega Body Exhibit is great for school fairs, fun runs and marathons, company health and wellness events, fitness expos, and the list goes on. With informative signage, accessibility services for children with sensory sensitivities and more, we guarantee that Megan is an exhibit designed to benefit anyone and everyone.

Here at Medical Inflatables, we teach people about the dangers of drugs and alcohol with our larger-than-life inflatable organs—Mega and Mega Lungs—expert instruction from our engaging staff of paramedics, nurses and nurse practitioners, and creative, fun-filled games and hands-on activities.

Our program isn’t just for children. Our exhibits are the perfect way to teach your entire community about how to live a healthy life. They can give parents the confidence they need to speak to their children about substance abuse.

The centerpiece of our program is the Mega Brain, the world’s only traveling walk-through brain, dedicated to the science behind addiction. Our 18-foot long Mega Brain features information about addictive substances such as marijuana, alcohol, amphetamines, and much more. We teach students (and adults) that addiction can be explained by neuroscience.

The Mega Lungs, the world’s only traveling walk-through lung exhibit is 15-feet wide and showcases a variety of diseases and is a great compliment to any smoking cessation program and include the latest research on vaping.

And this year we will be adding the Mega Liver; a walk-through liver exhibit that shows the effects of alcohol and alcohol abuse on your liver.

Please click here to learn more about our program. Other components of the program consist of handouts to compliment the lessons for both kids and adults and pre/post testing (upon request).

This year for Stroke Awareness Month the MEGA Brain made it’s way around the country teaching people of all ages what the signs and symptoms of a stroke are.

According to Stroke.org “In May alone, some 65,000 Americans will experience a stroke with many unaware that they were even at risk. Less than a third will arrive in the emergency room within three hours, the optimal time period for better outcomes.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hoRFii7QpQ

The acronym FAST is an easy way to identify the most common symptoms of a stroke:

B – Balance: Watch for a sudden loss of balance. Is the person leaning to one side or staggering when walking?

E – Eyes: Is there a sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes? Double vision that doesn’t go away when you blink your eyes. No side vision or vision above midline?

F – Face: Ask the person to smile or stick out their tongue. Is the smile uneven, is the tongue deviated to one side or does one side of the face droop? A bit of drooling out of that side of the face may be present.

A – Arms: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward? Is there sudden loss of coordination, numbness, weakness of that arm? For example, is the person suddenly unable to pick up a coffee cup or get it to his or her mouth? Does the arm or leg feel numb, or do they want to shake it all the time to wake it up like it’s asleep.

S – Speech: Sudden difficulty in speaking or understanding. Can the person repeat a simple phrase? Does the speech sound slurred/strange/garbled? Does the person say he or she has a thick tongue or have difficult in swallowing?

T – Time: What do you do if you observe any of these signs in yourself or in someone you are with? Call 911; do not drive the person to the local emergency room. By contacting EMS, assessment and treatment can be started prior to arrival to Emergency Department and time (brain) is saved. If known, note the time the patient was last seen well and give this information to emergency personnel along with any information you may have regarding the persons current medications. This will help determine what treatment the person is eligible for.

They might come in fun flavors like cotton candy and crème brulee, but that doesn’t make e-cigarettes safe. They “pose a serious public health risk,” said Scarsdale High School student Jack Waxman.

Waxman was one of dozens of New York teens MEGA Lungs and MEGA Brain educated about addiction during a recent Northeast tour. At an “Escape the Vape” event at Westchester Medical Center students toured MEGA Lungs, participated in a scavenger hunt, and learned about lung health. Lessons supported students’ work as ambassadors, teaching their peers about addiction and the importance of a drug-free life.

As she toured the MEGA Lungs, Giana Bartko of Ardsley High School said “the benefits of being drug free outweigh the negatives. It’s so worth it to be drug free.”

Mega Lungs on “Dr. Oz”

MEGA Brain partnered with the Scarsdale Task Force on Drugs and Alcohol to show Scarsdale Middle School students how drugs affect the brain. The Scarsdale Council of Parent-Teacher Associations also brought MEGA Brain to Scarsdale High School for STEAM day. “It was amazing,” said Scarsdale PTA parent Kathleen Campbell. Emily Vallario with the Scarsdale Task Force on Drugs and Alcohol was also impressed. “Kids were engaged,” she said.

At Scarsdale Middle School our in-house health educator (who also is a paramedic) spent the day speaking with 7th graders about the dangers of drugs and how it effects the brain.  Through out the day, the students came in for 30 minutes. Our health educator would explain the effects of marijuana especially it’s long term effects. He touched on cognitive impairments and structural and functional changes. Our health educator also spent time talking out other drugs like methamphetamines, opiods and alcohol.  Each presenation would begin with students gathered around the outside of the brain. Then they played a game of telephone with them with their ears muffled to simulate drugs effects on the receptors transmitting information. Afterwards students walk them through taking them through various parts of the brain and focus in on the features.

Parents and educators: you may want to start lessons on the brain way before counting and the ABCs. Here’s why. Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck has shown that teaching kids about how their brains work—and specifically that brains are “plastic” and can develop new capabilities with practice—makes a huge difference in how well kids deal with setbacks and mistakes.

Brain lessons can also make kids more motivated when they’re trying to master a new task, according to Dweck’s research. And with children’s attitudes and behaviors on achievement and failure already in place by preschool, it’s crucial to start early.

A majority of children, however, have a limited understanding of the brain. Often, parents and teachers explain other body parts, but think the brain’s too complicated and leave it out. Most students aren’t formally taught about the brain until middle school.

In one study, psychologists Peter Marshall and Christina Comalli found kids ages 4 to 13 failed to connect the brain to anything other than thinking. Kids thought it was a container for storing facts. They were oblivious to its role in seeing, smelling, hearing, feeling and other crucial functions. Marshall and Comalli wanted to change that. They found a 20-minute lesson about the brain was enough to improve kids’ knowledge of how the brain works. They advocate for neuroscience in elementary schools.

MEGA Brain recently did its part to help tackle a troubling health care provider shortage in El Paso, a West Texas city on the Rio Grande. A record 1,317 fifth graders from 20 school across the El Paso Independent School District met MEGA Brain at the annual Teddy Bear Clinic, an event held at a local high school gym designed to spark an interest in healthcare careers at an early age.

Stethoscopes hanging from their necks, students toured stations manned by local nurse and doctor volunteers with their teddy bear patients in tow to learn about nursing, radiology, counseling, how to check vital signs and what it’s like to be a doctor. Then, they met MEGA Brain.

Medical Inflatables donated the exhibit to event organizers for the day, and CEO Lauren Hill came along for the trip. “I realized there’s a lot that is misunderstood about mental health and where to seek resources,” Hill said in an interview.

Inside MEGA Brain, students learned about the brain’s parts and processes, brain trauma and disease. The event, organized by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) El Paso, was covered by local T.V. stations including ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX.

Teens touting florescent posters printed with “Love Your Brain” met MEGA Brain at a recent New York event designed to rebrand April 20th—often touted in popular culture as a day to smoke marijuana—as a day to promote a healthy brain.

MEGA Brain took center stage at the “Healthy Teen Brain Day” in Westchester, New York, where teens toured the MEGA exhibit, discovering how the drug can impair different parts of the brain. Marijuana impacts brain parts including the hippocampus, resulting in poorer memory, and the amygdala, where it can cause increased anxiety and paranoia. After completing a “brainy” scavenger hunt through MEGA Brain, teens took home a gold brain-shaped stress ball as a prize.

“It’s a really good idea for people to know the effects of drugs on the brain so we can maintain it for a healthier lifestyle,” said one teen at the event. Another teen aspires to get a college scholarship for track and go to the Olympics one day. “Smoking weed really is not going to help me,” he said.

Today’s teens are less likely to view marijuana as harmful, yet research from the American College of Pediatricians shows the drug can cause changes in brain structure at a critical time in a child’s development, their teenage years.

The event was held at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, and celebrated teens who choose to abstain from the drug. “We don’t have to be followers,” said another teen during the event. “We make our own decisions.” Read more about MEGA Brain.

MEGA Heart wowed audiences on the road during American Heart Health month, with multiple stops in the U.S., from New York City to Cleveland. On the Rachael Ray Show in Manhattan, Ray and best-selling author and TV personality Dr. Ian Smith ventured into MEGA Heart to show viewers how a heart attack happens and explain the heart’s parts. Ray would have been “way better at science,” she said, if she could have toured MEGA Heart in elementary school. MEGA Heart spent an entire day with reporters and Cleveland Clinic cardiac care doctors in the FOX 8 studio, where one reporter said MEGA Heart has “the wow factor.” Cardiac surgeon Marc Gillinov injected a bit of heart humor into the New Day Cleveland Show as he led viewers through MEGA Heart—“some people can repair cars; I can fix valves.” While it’s “bad for business,” Gillinov joked, he shared the best way to keep the heart healthy—with 30 minutes of exercise every day. And his parting heart advice? “You control it; keep it tickin’.”

The David Ortiz Children’s Fund Gala, the DOCF’s annual Boston event, is proudly heading into its fourth year on July 18th, 2016. Each year, David Ortiz brings a taste of the Dominican Republic to New England for a great cause. The event features an authentic Dominican-inspired menu, along with traditional music and dancing. In its first three years, the Gala has netted over $500,000 for the David Ortiz Children’s Fund, in partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital for Children and World Pediatric Project, to provide critical pediatric care throughout New England and in the Dominican Republic. Money raised at this event will support the DOCF’s various initiatives throughout 2016.

Have you thought about having an event during this coming Stroke Awareness Month?

Medical Inflatables is doing our part by taking a MEGA Brain® exhibit on the road for a nationwide tour with the Strike Out Stroke™ organization. In case you haven’t heard of them, this organization partners with professional baseball teams across the U.S. and hosts a stroke awareness exhibition on game days, reaching as many people in a given community as possible. We assist them in setting up (and manning) a MEGA Brain right outside the stadium, taking full advantage of the large concrete expanse that everyone must cross on the way to their seats. What better way to attract folks of all ages and from all walks of life?

The MEGA Brain has become an important part of these Strike Out Stroke events by helping educate people in a FUN way, as they get to casually stroll through a larger than life brain and learn about how it functions. In addition to helping actual stroke victims, Strike Out Stroke is committed to preventing strokes, so the learning experience is specifically geared towards that goal (e.g., providing information about warning signs and how important it is to act fast).

As with all our clients, we have developed a special relationship with the Strike Out Stroke team and wholehearted join in the effort of promoting stroke awareness!

Medical Inflatable Exhibits, Inc. can provide an inflatable MEGA Brain for your stroke awareness event as well. It’s not too late to reserve yours and find out how much excitement you can generate by adding this unique exhibit to whatever else you may be planning in the month of May¾or any other time of year.

Did you know there are many free resources available to help turn your next health fair or wellness fair into a more meaningful program? Various non-profit organizations provide information and publications on disease, targeting health care professionals, patients and their families, and the general public. These resources consist of technical and non-technical pamphlets, flyers, journals, videos, audiotapes, etc. that focus on prevention, research, and support services; as well as references, referrals, and clearinghouses. For example, informational materials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cover topics like nutritional guidelines, and food and drug safety awareness. Other organizations provide educational messages concerning specific medical issues like high blood pressure, heart and lung problems, eye health, diabetes, and so forth.

For a complete list of resources, go to this web page: http://wellnessproposals.com/health-fair-wellness-fair-planning-guide/national-resources-list. If you take the time to inquire, you may find more free resources than you ever dreamed of.  Such resources will simplify your event planning efforts and add priceless value to your overall event, while also helping you stay within budget. Note that electronic catalogs are available in some cases, and certain items are published in both English and Spanish.

Medical Inflatable® Exhibits, Inc. can provide additional resources to accompany our exhibits, including various types of specialized educational materials (handouts with your brand, brochures, kids coloring and activity sheets, etc.). Ask us about how we can customize your exhibit with supplemental information to suit your audience.

Nowadays, celebrity chefs are the rage as people watch cooking shows on T.V. for pure entertainment as much as a great way to learn new recipes. And some of the chefs focus on healthy foods to stay fit, especially those invited to appear on the Dr. Oz show. What a great addition to your next Health Fair ¾ to have a chef demonstrating good eating habits, by showing your attendees how to prepare foods that prevent disease and, in some cases, actually heal the body of certain ailments.

You may consider a famous chef if your budget permits (or if he/she donates their time and talent), or it could be a local nutritionist making smoothies and raw vegetable juices. Regardless, this special feature is sure to draw crowds and spice up your event. Flyers with tips on healthy eating could provide further awareness, with links to popular recipe websites that offer low-fat meal planning (for example, http://www.foodnetwork.com/healthy-menus/package). This type of experience also lends itself to teaching children about making smart food choices, perhaps through the use of coloring books or videos to watch real-time.

Of course, a Medical Inflatables exhibit, such as the MEGA Body®, would nicely compliment any such cooking demo. To learn more about Medical Inflatables, go to www.medicalinflatables.com or www.facebook.com/medicalinflatables.

In today’s competitive marketplace, healthcare services organizations large and small need to employ innovative and savvy ways to communicate their offerings. Targeting patients and increasing their awareness of disease prevention is ever more necessary, especially as the U.S. population ages. But, it’s not enough to rely on word of mouth and passive advertising techniques. Effective strategies are needed to get the public’s attention, set you apart from other medical entities, and educate people at the same time.

Of course, you still need to use traditional means of marketing, e.g., patient literature, such as brochures. However, “interactive” methods of engaging your audience have the biggest impact and tend to be the most memorable. That’s where an exhibit of some sort, set up in common areas like children’s museums and hospital lobbies, or at medical conferences, clinic openings, and even ball parks, comes into play. Magically, the media tends to show up for added coverage when such an event is in town!

Medical Inflatable™ Exhibits, Inc. has the ideal product (larger than life human organ models) that attracts crowds to experience its unique MEGA BrainMEGA LungsMEGA Heart, and MEGA Body. These walk-through exhibits are geared to all ages, as they graphically promote healthy lifestyles and teach how to avoid specific illnesses. An exhibit can also be customized with worksheets and handouts for a particular purpose or age group.

Planning a Heart Walk is no easy feat! Between finding the right sponsors, picking the right venue and working with your city to find a proper route for your walk, you barely have time to think of innovative ways to make your event something extra spectacular. With the Medical Inflatables MEGA Heart, now you can have an event that’s not only educational, innovative and fun, but entertaining for people of all ages.

Educational

Heart Walks have a clear purpose: to raise awareness for Heart Disease and Stroke. A big part of raising awareness is educating all the event participants in the hopes that they will pass along that information. Event marketers have a difficult time getting information out in a way that will engage everybody at the event. With the Medical Inflatables MEGA Heart, you’ve found a great way to let people know all about the heart in an interactive exhibit.

Entering through the Superior Vena Cava, the largest vein feeding the heart, the event participants will be educated on Heart valves, endocarditic infection, ventricular septal defect, mitral valve prolapse, thrombus and more. They’ll also be able to read information about heart diseases and the latest medical treatments. Upon leaving through the Aorta, the largest artery leaving the heart, you can walk around outside to see arteries, stents, myocardial infarction, coronary bypass grafts and more.

Innovative

The MEGA Heart is a 21 feet long, 15 feet wide and 12 feet high inflatable interactive exhibit. With LED lights throughout the exhibit, you’ll easily be able to read about heart functions, heart diseases and other information regarding heart disease and current treatment. Unlike most exhibits, you’re able to actually walk through the heart, seeing exactly where certain diseases affect the heart.

This innovative exhibit allows users a more interactive experience. With your Heart Walk participants this engaged, they’re more likely to take away information regarding heart disease that they can share with friends and family. Even if they just want to brag about how cool the inflatable heart was, they’re still spreading the word about the event – and more importantly, heart disease.

Fun

It’s never too early to teach children about heart disease, but on a weekend morning, the last thing on a child’s mind is learning! Luckily, the MEGA Heart is a great introduction to the heart for children. Being able to walk through the MEGA Heart allows children to engage with the different parts of the heart, reading and seeing as they go, helping them understand better. But, let’s be honest, the MEGA Heart is pretty cool for adults too, which is why this is a great interactive exhibit for families to explore together.

So there you have it: a fun, innovative and educational interactive exhibit that everybody can enjoy! Contact an event specialist to find out how you can bring an inflatable medical exhibit to your next Heart Walk. Just be warned: if you bring the MEGA Heart to your event, everyone will bring their friends to check it out next year, so start looking for a bigger venue now!

You’re an event marketer, putting together a tradeshow booth for a big pharmaceutical trade show. Hundreds of healthcare industry people will be stopping by your pharmaceutical trade show booth. You need to be sure that your booth will not only stand out from the other booths at this healthcare marketing event, but that people remember your booth, your product and your brand. You have two options: The safe route or the MEGA route.

You picked the safe route…

Your tradeshow booth is well-branded, informational and friendly. You’ve got great giveaways (pens, magnets, coffee mugs) and have networked with some really great people in the pharmaceutical industry. After some decent success, you take a walk around the pharmaceutical event to see what other medical marketing booths look like. One healthcare booth looks similar to yours, with similar giveaways. The booth next to it has a few more bells and whistles, but their lack of giveaways has hurt the foot traffic. After seeing a few other booths, you run into the event planner who put the tradeshow together. “Come with me, you’ve got to see this interactive exhibit!” she says. You turn the corner and find someone who took the MEGA route. Read on to find out what your exhibit could have looked like.

You picked the MEGA Route.

Rather than pick the safe route, you picked the MEGA route. Rather than settle for a run-of-the-mill tradeshow booth, you decided to give Medical Inflatables a chance. Next to your branded, informational booth, you have an interactive, walk-through exhibit highlighting the functions and diseases of the Heart. When visitors walk by, you can take them through the inflatable MEGA Heart exhibit and explain how your company’s new drug can help improve heart function. Your exceeded your sales goals within the first few hours of the pharmaceutical event. Toward the end of the day, the event planner walks by to show your exhibit to another pharmaceutical marketer. “Wow, I definitely shouldn’t have taken the safe route!”

Take your Event to the Next Level with Medical Inflatables!

Don’t be one of those event planners that waits for other people to lead the marketing field in innovative exhibit ideas. Bring Medical Inflatables to your event and see how much of an impact it can have on your business! Great for heart walk, hospital openings and many other events, the MEGA Heart, MEGA Lungs and MEGA Brain are a great feature for your next event! Contact one of our sales representatives to find out more information about these features. Are you looking for something special?
